1882

Charles R. Darwin died in Down (Kent, England). He was an English naturalist, geologist, and botanist. His masterpiece On the Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection (1859) is unanimously considered as the foundation of modern evolutionary biology. In this work, Darwin introduces the key notion of “natural selection” . The implications and consequences of his evolutionary theory will influence biology – our understanding of living beings and as the vision of the human being – up to the present days. His second most important work is  The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871): here Darwin advocates the idea the natural selection may explain the emergence and evolution of the human being.
